1.1 Description

Ammonium persulfate is a white monomeric crystal with the density of 1.92. it can be wholly decomposed under 120c, and reserve nondecomposable for a long period under arid climate. It is almost non-hygroscopic, and will gradually decomposed to emit oxygen and ozone after hygroscopic effect. It will be decomposed while being dissolved in the water. It is used as chemical reagent, oxidant, bleacher, deodorizer, and initiator for the polymerization of monomers. It has the particular advantage of having strong oxidation and of being easy and safe to handle

1.2 Application

1.2.1 Polymerization: initiator for the emulsion polymerization reactions in the preparation of acrylics, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrenes, and neoprene etc., and for the emulsion copolymerizstion of styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene. Moreover, as initiator in the manufacture of synthetic rubber (styrene butadiene and isoprene) and latex polymers.

1.2.2 Metal treatment: used in the treatment of metal surfaces (e.g. cleaning and etching of printed circuit boards, activation of copper and aluminum surfaces)

1.2.3 Cosmetic: essential component of bleaching formulations

1.2.4 Organic synthesis: as a oxidizing agent in the preparation of aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, quinines, and a variet of other compounds.

1.2.5 Paper: the sizing of paper and the repulping of wet-strength paper

1.2.6 Textiles: used in the desizing and bleaching of textiles and the development of dyestuffs

1.2.7 Adhesive: used in the preparation of adhesive films and metal bonding adhesives

1.2.8 Environmental: suitable for a variety of environmental applications, such as soil remediation and wastewater/groundwater cleanup

1.2.9 Swimming pools: used to purify water in swimming pools and other reclaimed water

1.2.10 Others:

1.2.10.1 Waste gases treatment: Oxidative degradation of harmful gases;

1.4 Storage

APS is not combustible but assists combustion materials due to release of oxygen.

It must be stored dry in closed containers and protected from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. Impurities suchs dirt, rust or traces of metal and reductants may cause catalytic decomposition.The product as supplied or in solution needs to be handled with proper care.
