1.1  Description

Potassium persulfate is a white, crystaline, odourless salt. with the density

of 2 48. It can be decomposed under 100C and dissolved in the water not

in ethanol, and has strong oxidation. It is used to produce oxidant and

initiator for the polymerisation, It has the particular advantages of being

almost non-hygroscopic, of having a good storage stability in normal

temperature and of being easy to handle

1.2 Application

1.2.1 Polymerization: initiator for the emulsion polymerization reactions

in the preparation of acrylics, polyvinyl chlorides, polystyrenes. and

neoprene etc., and for the emulsion copolymerization of styrene,

acrylonitrile, butadiene. Moreover, as initiator in the manufacture of

synthetic rubber(styrene butadiene and isoprene) and latex polymers.

1.2.2 Metal treatment: used in the treatment of metal surfaces(e.g cleaning and ething of printed circuit boards, activation of copper and aluminum surfaces)

1.2.3 Cosmetic: essential component of bleaching formulations.

1.2.4 Organic synthesis: as a oxidizing agent in the preparation of

aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, quinines, and a variety of other compounds.

1.2.5 Paper: the sizing of paper and the repulping of wet -strength paper

1.2.6 Adhesive: used in the preparation of adhesive films and metal

bonding adhesives

1.2.7 Environmental: suitable for a variety of environmental applications,

such as soil remediation and wastewater/groundwater cleanup

1.2.8 Swimming pools: used to purify water in swimming pools and other

reclaimed water

1.2.9 Others:

1.4 Storage

KPS( PPS) is not combustible but assists combustion of combustible materials due to release of oxygen.It must be stored dry in closed containers and protected from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. Impurities such as dirt, rust or traces of metal and reductants may cause catalytic decomposition. The product as supplied or in solution needs to be handled with proper care. The eye, skin and clothes must be protected when working with KPS( PPS ). KPS (PPS) as damp powder or aqueous solution has a bleaching and slightly corroding effect.
